My Story

IMG_3342.jpg

I always find it hard to write about myself. It’s not that I do not know who I am, it’s more that what part matters seems to change throughout the day.

I am the daughter of a Danish mother and an American father, which makes me both a mongrel and a wanderer.

I seem to find solace in shifts and the gaps of life. Those in-between places have always been where I found my inspiration, both as an artist and as a writer, possibly even as a human. That place, between reality and the opposite, whatever you call it, holds infinite possibilities to me. The less the dots are connected, the more my brain seems to engage.

Like any born creative, I've had my struggles in life, and that metaphysical space not only inspires me, it also provides a platform to investigate and share without feeling like I'm oversharing or exposing myself.

My subject matter clearly springs from the darker corners of my mind. That said, I also love a good laugh. The comical illustrations give me that, as well as a break from the gloom.

I earned my BA in design at Massey University, Wellington, NZ, with a major in illustration. Wellington is also where my son Max was born. Prior to that, I took courses at San Francisco School of Art, became a certified aerobics instructor, lived, worked, and competed at Oakridge Stables, Santa Rosa (horses), art school in Copenhagen, and did a two-year HF program at Svendborg Gymnasium  - just to name the highlights. After New Zealand, I came back to Copenhagen and started as a freelance illustrator. In 2020, my first novel, Lucky Lucy, was published. I have been accepted into the one-year program of Writer's Academy, starting in August 2026.

Lucky Lucy is amongst the strongest and most beautiful books I have read in a very long time.

Library review by
Susanne Mendel

“An unsurpassed novel and a stunning debut. An exceptionally well-written and captivating novel that truly manages to hold the reader’s attention from the first page to the last. A completely unique and special reading experience, and a novel that stays with you long after the final page has been turned.”

One of the most convincing debuts I have ever read.

Illustrations:

Mig Mona altid i træsko (røde)

“These images help sustain the story’s minimalist progression and uncover the little gem hidden like a glass eye and a message in a bottle at the bottom of Mona’s loneliness and red clogs.

It is moving reading. A glimpse into eternity.”

- Kim Skytte, Politiken

"The illustrations are a chapter in themselves. Her otherworldly yet beautiful illustrations do more than simply support the reading experience. No, they have a life of their own. The illustrator Josefine Blom is quite a coup for these books."

Skrædder i Helvede

“It’s his eyes I can’t let go of. They won’t let go of me either, but keep looking at me — insistently. Very insistently — he practically pierces me with those eyes! He wants something from me!”

- Lisa M. Henderson
