Lucky Lucy, cover art

After finishing writing Lucky Lucy, I was encouraged by my publisher to illustrate the cover myself. Strangely enough, I am not too keen on illustrating my own writing, but this cover flowed. I used the idea of wallpaper as something that wraps and hides what's underneath. Both in the sense that it holds the story, but also in a psychological sense. Meaning we all wear a "pretty" outer layer. The juxtaposition of the beautiful wallpaper and the speared bee gives the viewer a sense of foreboding. The rips and cracks talk about that things may not be as they should be underneath. The book is set in 1890, and I wanted the design of the wallpaper to be of that time. I chose to use a William Morris design as inspiration. Not only did he do stunning work, but the wallpaper could actually have adorned the walls of the mansions in the book. I believe that a read should start with the cover.

People 'n Bikes

If you have ever traveled through Denmark, you will have come across most of these fearless people on their bikes. Like some kind of strange species of centaur, half human, half bicycle, they cycle anywhere. Braving all kinds of weather, carrying gods know what. Having lived in the capital, Copenhagen, for many years, I have observed them from cafés, joined them on various bikelanes across the city, and jumped for my life crossing streets. They never cease to both amaze and entertain.
